What the employer pays in Ontario

  • CPP: 5.95% of earnings between the $3,500 basic exemption and the $74,600 YMPE, up to $4,230.45 (CRA). CPP2: 4% between $74,600 and $85,000, up to $416.
  • EI: 1.4 times the employee rate of 1.63%, so 2.282% of insurable earnings up to $68,900, a maximum of $1,572.30 (CRA).
  • Ontario Employer Health Tax: 1.95% at the top rate (Ontario). Eligible private employers are exempt on the first $1 million of Ontario payroll, so a small team may pay nothing; the calculator assumes the exemption is used up.
  • WSIB: priced by industry class; the default uses the 2026 rate for professional, scientific and technical services, $0.18 per $100.

Worked example

2026, Ontario, EHT exemption used up.
$60,000CPP $3,362 + EI $1,369 + EHT $1,170 + WSIB $108 = $6,009 (10.0%)
$105,000CPP $4,230 + CPP2 $416 + EI $1,572 + EHT $2,048 + WSIB $189 = $8,455 (8.1%)
$150,000CPP and EI at their maximums, EHT $2,925 = $9,363 (6.2%)

2027: EI moves to 1.64% (employer 2.296%) on up to $70,800, and the base CPP rate falls by 0.2 points under Bill C-30, making the employer CPP rate 5.75%. The 2027 YMPE is not published yet, so the 2027 view keeps the 2026 ceilings.
