Causal's Template Library Is Gone: The Models Founders Used, Rebuilt as Free Live Calculators

Causal's template gallery at causal.app/templates is gone. On October 22, 2026 the address returns a 301 redirect to Lucanet's xP&A page, and the www version shows a "Causal is now part of Lucanet" notice that redirects after 20 seconds. The last archived copy of the library, from November 17, 2025, listed 32 templates. Below is every one of them, the free Adlega calculator that does the same job, and a plain "no equivalent" where we do not have one. Each calculator runs in the browser with no signup, and most have an Excel download on our templates page.

What happened to the Causal templates

  • Causal joined Lucanet. Lucanet announced the acquisition on October 31, 2024 (Lucanet press release). Causal now sits inside Lucanet's CFO Solution Platform as its xP&A (extended planning and analysis) product.
  • The library outlived the deal by about a year. The Wayback Machine has captures of causal.app/templates from May 2021 to November 17, 2025 (last capture). The September 2023, September 2024 and November 2025 captures list the same 32 templates.
  • Then the whole site switched to a notice. The causal.app home page was still the old Causal site in a January 4, 2026 capture; by February 2026 it showed "Causal is now part of Lucanet" (February 17, 2026 capture). We did not find an announcement that names the date the template pages came down.
  • Lucanet does not offer a public template gallery or public prices. Its pricing page lists Basic, Advanced and Professional tiers with a "Contact sales" button and no figures (read on October 22, 2026).

Each template was a shared model hosted on my.causal.app. Those model pages still load the Causal app shell, but we could not confirm whether a template opens for someone without a Causal login, so we treat the library as gone for new users.

The 32 templates, and what to use instead

The library mixed startup finance with personal finance and a few fund and public-company examples. We map each one to the closest free calculator; "partial" means the calculator covers the core math but not everything the Causal model did.

Template names and descriptions are from causal.app/templates as archived on November 17, 2025; the same 32 appear in the September 11, 2024 capture. Live status checked on October 22, 2026.

The count: 11 of the 32 have a close or partial match here, one more maps to the Adlega app rather than a calculator, and the other 20 have no equivalent. Most of those 20 are personal finance, fund models or examples that a SaaS founder would not have used for their own plan.

Older templates that were gone before the acquisition

A May 2022 capture shows a different set, including "SaaS Financial Model" ("Simple financial model for a software-as-a-service (SaaS) business"), "SaaS model (advanced)", "Startup Runway Calculator" ("When will your Startup run out of cash?") and "Revenue based hiring" ("When to hire new employees") (May 19, 2022 capture). None of them is in the 2023 to 2025 list. If you remember one of these, the closest matches are our SaaS financial model template, the runway calculator and the headcount planner.

The founder templates in more detail

P&L, runway and break-even

"Profit & Loss + Cash Runway" was the one most founders opened first. The runway calculator gives gross and net burn, months of runway and the month cash runs out, with revenue growth. For a month-by-month plan with budget vs actual, use the SaaS budget template. "Founder Break-Even" asked whether revenue covers costs before the money runs out; the break-even calculator gives the revenue and customer count, and the runway calculator tells you how long you have to get there.

Revenue: sales-led and marketing-led

Causal had two SaaS revenue templates, one per motion. For sales-led, the sales capacity calculator turns AE quota, attainment, ramp and hire dates into monthly bookings and the gap to target. For marketing-led, the trial-to-paid calculator turns visitors, conversion rates, ARPA and spend into new customers, new MRR, CAC and payback. To see how new, expansion and churned revenue add up over time, use MRR growth or the ARR waterfall.

Headcount

Three of the 32 were headcount models. The headcount planner covers the simple one: roles, cost per head, and what the plan does to burn and runway. If you need start months per hire, the SaaS budget template has them, and the employee cost calculator adds 2026 US employer taxes and benefits to a salary.

Equity and exits

The compensation and convertible-note models are where we are thinnest. The cap table, dilution and liquidation preference calculators cover priced rounds and exit payouts by share class. None of them converts a note or SAFE, and none values a single employee's offer.

Where to get the spreadsheets

Causal templates were models in Causal, not files you could keep. Our calculators also come as ungated Excel files with live formulas: no email, no signup. They are all on the free SaaS finance templates page.

Rebuilding a Causal model in Adlega

If you had built your own model from a Causal template, the calculators above check single questions; they do not replace a full model. Adlega is our product, a self-serve, driver-based forecast for SaaS: you enter starting MRR, growth, churn, pricing and a hiring plan, and it produces a 36-month forecast with MRR, ARR, churn, CAC, LTV, burn and runway, plus a three-statement view. There is a free plan; paid plans start at $49/month. For the wider choice of tools, see the Causal alternative page.

  1. Export what you can. If you still have a Causal login, export assumptions and actuals to CSV or Excel.
  2. Write down the drivers, not the cells. Starting MRR, new customers per month, churn, ARPA, hires and their start months, other costs.
  3. Check each piece with a calculator above, then enter the drivers in a model that keeps them together.

Frequently asked questions

Where did the Causal templates go?

causal.app/templates now redirects to Lucanet's xP&A page (checked October 22, 2026). The last archived copy of the library is from November 17, 2025. Lucanet does not publish a replacement template gallery.

Can I still open a Causal template?

Existing Causal customers can still log in at my.causal.app. We could not confirm whether the shared template models open without a login. For new users, there is no sign-up path for standalone Causal.

Is there a free replacement for the Causal SaaS templates?

For the startup templates, yes, in part: 11 of the 32 have a close or partial free calculator here, listed in the table above. Cohort analysis, convertible notes, consolidation and the fund models have no free equivalent on this site.

Did Causal shut down?

No. Causal continues as Lucanet xP&A for existing and enterprise customers. The founder-facing site, its pricing page and its template gallery are what went away.

Where Adlega is weaker

Adlega is self-serve: you build the model yourself. The AI CFO guides you and explains every number, but no analyst builds it for you, so a founder who wants the work done by a person may prefer a done-for-you service. Its integrations (Stripe, Chargebee, Google Analytics, Google Ads), forecast-vs-actuals and scenario comparison are still rolling out on the Growth plan, so today most numbers come from the drivers you enter rather than synced data. And it is built around SaaS metrics, so a business without recurring revenue will get less from it than from a general-purpose planning tool.
