Explain: understanding any field or number

Updated July 18, 2026

Alongside the conversational AI CFO, Adlega has an inline Explain feature that answers “what is this field?” and “why is this number what it is?” right where you are looking.

How it works

Next to input fields and calculated figures you’ll find an info icon. Open it and you get:

  • A plain-English explanation of what the field does.
  • A typical range or example for your kind of business.
  • The formula, where the number is calculated — for example how LTV is derived from margin and churn.

When to use it

  • You are filling in an assumption and are not sure what a field means or what a reasonable value is.
  • You are reading an output and want to know exactly how it was calculated.
  • You want to understand a metric well enough to defend it in a board meeting or investor call.

Explain vs. the AI CFO

  • Explain is quick and local — it answers about one field, inline, without a conversation.
  • The AI CFO is for broader questions that span your whole model: “why did cash drop in month 8?”, “is my CAC reasonable?”, “what happens if we hire two engineers early?”
Use Explain to learn the model as you build it. Over time you'll rely on it less — but it means you never have to leave the app to look up what a term means.
