Goal-seek: working backwards from a target
Updated July 18, 2026
Most planning works forwards: change an input, see the result. Goal-seek works backwards: you name the outcome you want, and Adlega finds the levers that get you there.
Set a goal
Pick a preset target or type your own in plain English:
- “Triple my MRR”
- “Reach $1M ARR”
- “Extend runway to 24 months”
- “Get to 5,000 customers”
- Or a custom one: “What if we cut our CAC in half?”
What it does
The AI works out which assumptions to change and by how much to hit your target, then shows you the resulting forecast. Instead of guessing at inputs until the output looks right, you state the output and see what it takes to get there.
Why it’s useful
- Fundraising math. “How much runway does another $2M buy us?” is a goal-seek question.
- Reality checks. If hitting a target requires an unrealistic churn rate or ad budget, goal-seek surfaces that fast — which is a useful answer in itself.
- Board targets. Work back from the number your board wants to the operating changes it implies.
Goal-seek gives you a starting point, not a promise. If the levers it suggests aren't realistic for your business, that tells you the target itself may need to change.
Goal-seek pairs naturally with what-if mode — use goal-seek to find the change, then what-if to explore around it.
